Through the Mojave Desert

[US 6] - Palmdale / Junction  EAST

El. 2655'

Looking north towards Palmdale Blvd (SR-138) from Sierra Highway.

State highway sign on Sierra Highway southbound. Note the extra post on the right top for a missing SR-138 shield.

Through Palmdale and Lancaster, the highway is signed as a Historic Route.

Finally reaching Palmdale, US 6 parallels the railroad from here to Mojave. This a major stop along US 6 as it is one of the last places with services for many miles around. This section of Sierra Highway was originally paved in 1921. The freeway bypassed it in 1966.
