- Summit
This was called Summit as this is the highest point on US 6 along the foothills of the Sierra Pelona Mountains. This photo shows Summit in 1996 and is looking west. The mountains in the very back are above Piru. Passing lanes were constructed here in 1952 to help ease the ever-increasing traffic load. In 1963, this whole stretch of Sierra Highway was bypassed by the Antelope Valley Freeway.
