Route 27 starts is journey at Pacific Coast Highway (SR-1), runs through the Santa Monica Mountains, then through the San Fernando Valley finally ending at the 118 Freeway. Topanga Canyon Blvd varies from a two-lane road in the south to a six-lane boulevard in the San Fernando Valley.

twin-slab concrete dates to 1930, and was realigned in the late 1960's.
