The Foothill Freeway is one of the most diverse in the Los Angeles area. It goes through mountains, along the foothills, and is an urban freeway along many of its miles. The first segment to be constructed opened in 1955 near Devils Gate Dam. It was eventually bypassed. Much of the freeway was constructed from 1968 to 1975 with the last segment of the original freeway opening was in 1980 near Sunland. This was the famed section of freeway used in the TV show - CHiPs. HOV lanes run along the freeway from Pasadena at SR-134 to San Bernardino at I-215. In 2007, the last segment opened, covering the gap between I-15 and I-215.
