Welcome to the Los Angeles Geology Page! This site will cover some of the more unique aspects of the geology around Los Angeles. I hope to cover each valley and mountain range. Watch for updates in the coming months.
The Greater Los Angeles area is a very interesting place, geologically. It is an area with deep sedimentary basins, steep mountains, lots of faulting – with plenty of seismic activity to boot! The San Gabriel Mountains, to the north, rise to over 10,000′.

Special Note: This was formerly the Geology of the Santa Clarita Valley site, but was reorganized into the current page in January, 2008. Most of the old page can be found on the Santa Clarita Valley section, with the remainder still on this page.
